Powerglide???

Well here is my question sent my 200 to a local shop to get rebuilt/shift kit, but,..................I have a powerglide sitting in my garage. Would it be worth it to swap to powerglide, and where would I find the adapter plate to be able to bolt up the gluide?? I am going to get charged 900 dollars to get the 200 done. Yes this guy knows whaqt he is doing this is parts and labor for (I am not a tranny guy, lol)new hardened stator shaft, new sunshell(??), and a trans-go shift kit, and for him to go through the tranny and check everything out. I am running out of money for me to get the car running this year and I think if I went with the gluide I could save alot of money and get the rest of the things I need to get.

Any input or information would be greatly appreciated!!!

The easiest way to get that PG to bolt on to a buick is to get the JW bell housing. It has dual bolt patterns. You will have to geta new drive shaft, trans mount, and cross member. On top of that a shifter too. Thats just as much coin as the repair on the 200r4.

But on the other hand I donth think thats the right move for a stock 85 TR. If it was a high power Stage 2 car , maybe but probably not even.

Not going to be stock in a month or so but will probably only make about 450 so I don't even know if thats worth it.

It is not.
This should not even be a consideration for "most" TR`s.

Well after sitting back and talking to a few people and hearing your responses I have decided against this. Anyone interested in a Glide??lol

I always wanted to try a powerglide. They're light, they don't use any power and the final drive is the same as a th400. Our cars don't really need the gear so I think it might just work.

Come on, put it in and prove everyone wrong:biggrin:

Well... as long as I can spend the same or less than the 200 build then I can do it. I have a Pat's 10" non l/u converter. I don't know if they offer a input shaft for the power glide to accept this converter. Do you know??

if you are ok with the turbo not spooling up for 1/2 block than go ahead and install the glide.as far as the final drive being the same as a 400 that is not what gets the car moving,its the starting line ratio.that is a very poor comparison in my opinion.dont take this post the wrong way ,it is meqnt to be informative.:biggrin:

You shouldn't have a spool up problem with the correct stall.
That wasn't what I meant. I meant that you weren't going to loose anything up high and a little taller first gear could be good also plus power glides hardly use up any power. My car comes out of first to fast and I think I could use a taller first gear.
I have no experience with a powerglide except with observing my Brothers builds which have been 8 and 7 second cars so I can't say how they would work on a 10 or 11 second car.
Powerglides are just a different beast. Most TR guys won't even consider a th400 so I can see why they wouldn't want a powerglide either.
