1. Grab some rags. Remove the cap from the port on the end of the fuel rail.
2. Place the rags under the schrader valve, to catch any fuel.
3. Attach the hose from a fuel pressure gauge minus the gauge to the port on the fuel rail<---(makes it 10x easier to have one of those). If you don't have one, then a small diameter piece of hose should work. Just make sure its long enough to reach the container you're transferring the fuel to.
4. Find your fuel pump relay in the underhood fuse center.
5. Noting the orientation, Remove the Fuel Pump Relay.
6. Looking at the bottom of the relay, it should be labeled as such:
1 or 85
2 or 86
3 or 30
4 or 87
5 or 87a
Power comes from the battery terminal 3 (30). PCM sends 12V+ (i think) to Terminal 2 (86) and since the other side is grounded, it completes the circuit, powering up the coil in the relay. The coil pulls the switch attached to terminal 3 (30) to terminal 4 (87), sending power to the fuel pump.
If I confused you let me know, just making sure you know how a relay works, so if you have any problems, you can look back at this.
7. Taking a short piece of wire, Jump the sockets where terminals 3 (30) and 4 (87) on the relay would sit. This will send power to the fuel pump, causing it to run until you remove that piece of wire.
i'd like to know also.
my plan was to pump the gas out of cars after winter storage and dump it into my DD cars so i could then put fresh gas in the good cars when i pull them out in the spring. i though it would be easy to disconnect the fuel line from the tank where it connects to the fuel filter, drop the line in a gas can, and turn on the pump.
i've not found out if simply turning on the key (which normally primes the pump) will keep the pump running or not. if not - it would suck to have to turn the key on / off 100000 times. some one recommended this to me... (on my '98 car FYI)
Don't empty your tank though!! A full tank doesn't rust inside...a empty will.
i think you mis understood...
i fill the tank in the fall before storage (just like you said so the tank won't rust). in the spring i usually baby the car until i use up the gas and can get a fresh tank.
what i'd like to do is in the spring drain the tank (easily) and put the winter gas into my daily driver. i can then fill the tanks with fresh gas the first time i pull them out of the garage.
