I am going to get a powerlogger in about a month.

Questions:

Can I use my TT chip as is or do I need to get Eric to do an upgrade for it?

Is an EGT probe an absolute must?

I have windows 98 onmy old laptop..is that going to work?

Any and all input, suggestions, tips before I buy and install the system would be greatly appreciated.

Ed, check out Full Throttle Tech
Don't need an EGT but you could log it. TT chip will work with no mods.

Thanks Turbo6 guy. It looks like you know what your talking about with all of those mods in your signature. PW, PL... Thoses things are extra weight...takem out now! You might even run 10's without all that stuff. :D :D

Got to rag you Damon..just jealous of that mid-10 second timeslip you got this weekend...

hey i met eric at the nats and he runs a powerlogger and this thing is the @#$%. you dont need an egt with it but you can run an a/f gauge with it and hook your scanmaster into it and the scanmaster will show a/f instead of o2's and it shows leanest numbers too also shows boost and other things. i am definetly getting one. dont need another gauge to look at since i am already used to the scanmaster

I am buumed...my laptop does not have a USB port. Is there an adapter to go to my other ports or is a USB an absolute?

Or do I have to have a laptop in the car at all. Cant I record and playback on my PC at home?

No usb ports? Must be ancient!! ;)

You can't record or playback without being able to "talk" to the PL. You need a laptop for that.

My recommendation would be to get a nice used laptop with at least one, preferably two USB ports, and running XP

Yeah its old Dave. I paid about $50 for it. I just needed it for my LM1 to log that data at the time.

Maybe I can go to Lowes and get enough extension cords to reach the end of the 1/4 mile so I can put my home PC in the back seat.:D

It'll take a little over a half mile of extension cord, this of course depends on where the various outlets are placed along the track.

you can use it if your computor has pmcia slots on the side. there about 2 inches by 1/4 inch and 3 inches long just pop them in and it has a usb port on the end

Okay. My laptop is windows 98SE and I found the USB port.:)

I have been reading the FTS tech forum and I see that I can tap into the MAP sensor green wire behind the glovebox for boost reference.

I see that I can rewire the 5v reference to the MAP sensor from the TPS to make sure its a good source.(Thanks TurboDave)

The only thing I am little fuzzy on is how do I connect my LM-1 WB senosr wire to the PL. Do I need a special cable? Or some sort of adaptor? What do I do with my LM-1 box....put it on Ebay?

Ya know that little analog input device that came with your Powerlogger. The one with the cable that connects it (analog input device) to the powerlogger.

You need to run your WBO2 signal to input 1 on that device.

And you will notice on the powerlogger F3 screen you can select LM-1 as your WB input. (several other choices on that list also)

So the aux. device that came with the lm-1 will plug into the PL?

No. The powerlogger has a little analog input device to hook "things" to.

Got one, right?

Whatever wire comes out of the WBO2 sensor that carries the 0-5v signal to the device you were reading it from will hook into the powerlogger.

Just tap off a wire from the LM1 to the powerlogger input 1.

Gotcha. Thanks Dave. Without guys like you we would still be pulling plugs and taking a wild guess at what the combustion chamber was doing.
