Do I need to un-hook my battery when changing chips or can i just un-hook the orange wire? When I un-hook the battery I have to re-set my radio and my trip odometer and stuff. Thanks.

I believe it is fine just to disconnect the orange ECM wire when doing a chip change. That's what I do and haven't had any problems.

Cool. I didn't know if disconnecting just that wire would erase the memory of the old chip or not.

I change them with the car running.

I heard Tom Chou like to do that to freak people out when he was developing the Thrashers :).
You only really need to reset the ecm (unplug the orange wire) if you've changed the injector constant or the maf calibration tables or are going from/to an open loop idle chip.
