problems at the track

while i was running very consistant 14.9's (slow, but VERY consistant) my dad went from a 14.4 to a 15.2 then back to a 14.8, all over the place.

he said at the end of the track it would just loose all of its boost, then slowly rebuild the boost, then drop it again. I wasn't driving so i don't really know what happend, i was jsut told to find out. coudl it be bac vacume lines, bad acuator? where is a good starting point?

was it losing boost after shifts or sporadically?

Maybe it was detonating and the timing retarded?

from what i understood, the boost just fell off. theres no knock gauge and with its loud exhaust i doubt he would be able to hear any minor knocking. i'm thinkign possible the acuattor is going bad, does that happen like that?
