I have an 86 GN, with PT51, 42# injectors, Adjustable Regulator, and aftermarket pump, 2800 12" converter. The rest of the car is pretty much stock. Under full boost it pulls real hard, but it lags real bad in first gear. I cant even get it to build much boost power breaking on the line at the dragstrip. The next mod (which will hopefully be done this week) is a 3" downpipe, but i cannot imagine this curing the whole lag problem. Any ideas on how i can get this thing to spool faster? I was running faster times with stock turbo and injectors at same boost. Any help would be appreciated.

do you have a scantool? if not get one they are a must for tuing these cars. check your headers they are well known to easily crack(driver side mainly) which could be contributing to your lag. thats all i can think of. HTH:)

first off i'd check and make sure your wastegate puck is sealing the hole..

pull the elbo off the turbo and you should be able to see the outline of the puck on the turbo housing and the outline of the hole on the puck..

I had the same problem. Was a slug off the line.Could'nt spin tires off the line. Could only bulid 5-6# boost on the line:( I know I need a higher stall TC. But got the Extender Chip and it helped the lag problem alot.:) Can spin tires now. :D Still need to try the Launch Asst. mode.

If you still have the stock wastegate elbow, DP, AND IC neck, these aren't helping the situation! And, as mentioned, your chip may not be helping, either. See my GN combo below (stock D5) and it isn't bad at all!

thanks for the info guys!! i will hopefully have the 3" down pipe, on next week. what is this extender chip? i am using the chips that pte sent me with the 009 42# injectors, i have a street one and a race one.

Definately worth the try!! I tested the difference one night of the launch assist in my GN with a TE-51. On the same style light launch (5 psi) my 60ft went from mid 1.8's to 1.70 with it on using a stock D5 convertor.

Biggest thing that helped spoolup on my car was the Extender and BstC Boost Command. Otherwise make sure you have a free flowing IC and exhaust system, a good sealing puck, and a chip thats not fat on the bottom.
