PTA-51 on a stock car?

I'm still really new to the TB world, but I have a line on a killer deal on a PTA-51. I serached this forum and didn't find much on this turbo, only one mention that it might be a little laggy on a stock set-up.

The regal I would be putting it on is basically stock, no alcohol, no converter, no injectors, stock intercooler, etc... I do have a Walbro fuel pump in the car though. I would get the car dyno tuned after the install if I decide to go through with it.

What kind of gains, if any, would there be on a stock car? Right now the car runs pretty good for being basically stock. With 100 octane fuel and 18 PSI it went 13.3 @ 101 awhile back. Think I'll go any faster with the different turbo?

Hmmm. You'll do more with less boost on a 51. BUT you need fuel, hotwire and injectors will make that 51 shine. As far as lag goes, I'm not sure the stock converter is going to like that at all. Someone will chime in as to the specifics.
A 51 might not like that stock intercooler inlet either.

A "great deal" might be spent in other areas before a turbo IMHO. Stock turbos can produce some pretty impressive times when tuned correctly.

Your going to need a stall converter and injectors. I say 009 or 50lbs injectors and a 3000 stall. I had a 51 in the past with stock converter and it was alittle sluggish off the line. U should be happy if u get atleast those two things done.

Dont waste your money on a 51, it will blow quick, just my experience and many others....

ya 51s suck... some have had good luck others don't .. we ran one in Melissa's old set up for 2 years .. 11.4s on a stock motor and a stock D5 converter in street trim .. I would step up the inj if your goin to push it though

Basically, the turbo is free, so it's only a matter of whether or not I should install it.

I'll look into injectors and a custom tune if I decide to do it.

I can't afford a converter right now, but if Grumpy can swing 11.4's out of a 51 and a stock converter, that's good enough for me.

Dont get me wrong, I put about a city on a 03 cobra with it and alky, it just went south quick and I heard a bunch of other horror sroies about them.

ya I had heard that to BUT like the poster I got mine from a car I bought and turned back to a stocker .. Still have it .. goin on my mazda
