i had to make a plate to fit my frame braces .. bison had a good post on that .. depends on the headers you have some sit the turbo a little higher then stock .. if so dont cut your bracket .. use a piece of flat stock and bolt that with the long bolt and the small block bolt ..use gasket sealer on the bolts .. then bolt the pte bracket to that .. quick and simple . hope this help's

Hey Kevin,

Mine fit just fine with the front frame braces too! Apparently on some cars it fits and on others it doesn't. My intercooler just touches the passenger side front brace.
Intercooler is out of the car at the moment and the car is in storeage 1 hour away. I'm trying to dig up my installation instruction sheet from Precision. Think it may be in the trunk of the buick. Maybe someone else has a copy they can scan & post.

I have an extra Precision aluminum bracket (correct one) if you need one. Will post a picture so you can have a quick look & compare to be sure the one you have is correct.

Give me a call one night this week & I'd be happy to speak with you.

thanks
dave

I had a helluva time installing one on my '86. Mind you it was the first time I had done any 'real' work on these cars and I was also upgrading to a 6776 BB turbo so I started out behind the curve. I think the mistake I made was installing the turbo (torqued onto the header) and trying to get the SLIC to line up with it, get the driver's side bracket to line up, and just get a damned bolt started. Working alone probably didn't help. But after pulling the SLIC out a few times and putting back in after checking every possible angle for how I was going to make this thing work, I loosened the DS bracket, loosened the turbo and also clocked it down to meet the IC and was able to get the DS bolt started. Then I pushed all the hoses on and snugged them down. I tightened the turbo to the flange then 'shifted' the IC in place and was able to tighten all bolts. I did have to masscare the supplied water pump mounting bracket a little by elongating the holes. But was able to bolt it up as well. After all that, there was still a check in the IC hose but that was attributed to possibly a bent header. Not sure. I will say that I did have to send the turbo back to PTE to have the 'H' cover swapped for an 'S' cover. That lessened the check a bit.

This is a pretty generic description but I guess my point is, when I first dropped that thing in there I thought "NFW this is gonna work". Bweavy had to talk me off the ledge a few times but it eventually worked out (and then I had to pull everything back apart to have the wastegate hole ported).

Since I had made my braces the drivers side fit without a problem while one trip to the vise, two kicks, and the passenger side fit. The holes in the PTC bracket can be elongated to help in the fit also.

Well that is exactly what I was thinking,BUT I have known to be wrong. Thanks for the input

Hey Kev,

Here's a couple of pictures of what the correct Precision Turbo SLIC intercooler support bracket looks like (passenger side).
