30 psi @ idle with oil fully warmed up seems awfully high ... any particular reason you're running 20-50 oil, as opposed to say 10-30 or 5-30 ??
I hadn't really read reports of collapsed Bladwin filters here, but I'm sure it could happen with cold, thick oil under heavy throttle.
The "burst" pressure previously cited is just for the exterior case, filter media collapse is going to be created by "excessive" pressure drop ACROSS the filter media ... I don't have the "flow vs pressure drop" data for the media available.
This is where a filter with a built-in internal "racing" bypass (20 psi) might be helpful, for people running a plugged stock bypass. The stiff 20 psi racing bypass would probably NOT open under normal hot conditions, unlike the stock bypass. Yet the racing bypass would perhaps prevent filter collapse when the engine is still warming up.
The baldwin B253 is one such racing filter, Wix has an equivalent that is sold at
http://www.bakerprecision.com/ (among otehrs), but their site is down right now. NOTE: these racing filters would require a modified RJC adpater, as cited.
