Haven't run into the need to change to a different maf or get a translator but I see alotta guys doing it. What's the purpose of this?

The stock GM MAFs are discontued and unique to the TB. Rebuilt ones are a total crap shoot to find one that may work. Unless you run a system that doesn't use the MAF ie; FAST, DFI, TT SD, etc, then a Translator and matching MAF are your only choice. A flakey MAF can cause all kinds of bad sysmtoms.

In as few words as possible, Reliability, Longevity, Tuneability!!
