As long as you have all of the parts from the 86 t-type then you are in good shape. You have to change almost everything under the hood to put the 86 engine in your car. The fuel lines, wiring harness, radiator is differnet I believe and a whole lot more. There is a lot that needs to be done. I would remove everything from your 84 and then bring the t-type in and set it right next to it and start transfering parts one at a time. Ask around you will find people that have done the conversion already and they can tell you all that has to be changed.
you will also need to get rid of the hydroboost and change to the powermaster or go vacuum as the ps pump is alot smaller on the 86 and hoses are different too. other than that take out the 84 engine and harness and swap for the 86 stuff.

Lots of the 87 crowd is now converting the brakes to hydroboost. You can usethe 87 PS pump and "T" into the feed and return line. Do a search and stay away from the power master.

If your 84 is a turbo car then the swap is pretty easy but it will take a lot of time take lots of picutures of the 86 before you take it apart
the gas lines don't have to be changed.
I put my filter on the end of the line by the A frame easy fix compared to replacing the lines. If you need help contact me.

Does smaller things such as fuel injector harness and such interchange? The only reason I ask is because I just got a new harness for my 84, and now Ive found an 87 car with only 38k and might be taking that motor.

the fuel rail, cam sensor, valvecovers, timing cover, waterpump will work on the 87 engine i reused mine. if the timing cover loks to be drilled where the cam button is then replace it and get a roller cam button. price for button is 30.00 i have one if you need it... from clevite77
A guy I work with has an 83 regal, and ive given him some parts from my engine that I traded for a turbo. But, now that im probably getting this 87 setup, he might be buying the engine I have now. My question is, I have replaced a good deal on this motor, and it runs good, but I havent been able to get it to build boost good because of exhaust HEADACHES!!!! But, how much would a good 84 engine go for, with say the 87 turbo?
And also, tell me. I switching everything over to 87 setup, and since everything is there, what EXACTLY do I need to change over? Arent there some parts that can stay that both setups have in common? Oh yeah, he said the tranny cooler was busted though. Does the 84 85's have these? I honestly never looked for one.
what you can do if you can find one is drill the hole for the turbo drain then you can use the long block (block and heads). then the accessories will have to be changed but you can still use the hydroboost if you have it just have to tee into the p/s lines. the trans throttle cable you will have to get from a montecarlo or a reg regal because the carb cars has the same cable. with the trans cooler if your 84 radiator is in good shape then keep it and get a seprate trans cooler from jegs or summit, or get a 87 rad if yours is bad. look on ebay for a throttle cable as they are discontinued from gm.
i got all the parts from ebay when i built my 87 engine from scratch as my 84 engne had a bad line hone and leaking oil all the time. i parted out my 84 engine on ebay 3 years ago and got $4,000 for it all.
to fix exhaust leaks buy a 6 in belt sander and make sure all mating surfaces are flat, then use copper rtv and it will seal. let it sit for 24 hours before you start the engine!!!! havent had a leak since.

depending on what is in the engine and miles on it. my 87 engine has $10,000 invested in it. look at my sig.
seeing that 84 parts are getting hard to find around my house it as cheaper to get the 87 engine. now i can go to a parts store and get what i need.

my engine is basically stock except for the normal upgrades like afpr, and stuff along those lines. I have a new injector harness that i put on the engine as well that i will not be able to re-use. I will switch the parts such as the afpr and parts along those lines again. But again, for a basically stock 84 engine, is 1000 about the going rate, or is that a little low? This is the kind of guy that only buys something if he thinks he is getting a good deal on it. Im getting this complete 87 engine with everything to switch it over for only 800, and it only has 38k miles on it. Getting it from an older guy =-)
