putting tranny in saturday..questions!!

peterkin

..it isn't rocket science
what should i do to it before i put it in? it's a used piece until i get my tranny rebuilt. all i know about it is that it supposedly works. one of the guys in the club her suggested putting a b&m shift kit in it while i have it on the bench before i put it in the car. is there anything that i could look at inside the tranny that would tell me that i shouldn't put it in? right now anything is better than what i have, and i'm ready to see what this car will do so i can start tuning it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Drop the pan, inspect for metal pieces and lots of clutch material. Change filter and button it up. i would change the front pump seal and rear seal. Don't know what convertor your using but a new front teflon pump bushing would not be a bad idea. my o2's

SAVE YOURSELF SOME TROUBLE AND LEAVE THE CROSSMEMBER IN THE CAR JUST ONCE YOU GET THE TRANNY LOOSE FROM THE MOTOR THE TAILSHAFT WILL COME AROUND THE MOUNT PAD ON THE CROSSMEMBER AND COME RIGHT OUT BUT THE THE MOUNT COMPLETLY OFF THE TRANNY.

THOUGHT ID GIVE YA A TIP ITS ALOT EASIER THAN MESSING WITH THE CROSSMEMBER.

oops didnt mean to yell

and before you go back in rotate the flexplate around ..you'll notice the holes in the flexplate were the converter bolts up are slotted alil well 2 are slotted side to side and one is slotted up and down well if you put the first bolt in the up and down slot then you wont have a problem with getting the other two in were if you do one of the others first when you get to the one slotted the other way it might not line up just right then you'd have to go loosen the others back up and that sucks.

if you take the trann mount out first and le the back of the trans come down some it will give you better acces to the bellhousing bolts..

and if you take the bell housing bolts out then after that you can drop the trans off the motor and bring it down some to get to the tranny lines better.

before you start pop the tv cable loose at the t/b but leave it in the bracket and pull the 10 mm bolt out of it at the tranny and pull it up and you'll see it un hooks there.
that saves from having to feed iy back up when going back in ...its much easier to get the tranny lines loose with it unhooked at the tranny too.

well my finger is tired now so im gonna stop here with saying one more statement......................

HAVE FUN... :D
