Has anyone tried to do this before?? If so how did it work and if not than why hasn't anyone tried this before?? Will it work at all?? Just thought about different ways to have an intercooler mounted and I thought of using this instead of having steel tubing bent. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

Besides PVC not bending, the joints used are not smooth. There would be an airflow disturbance on this inside and then there is the question of heat making the pipe become brittle and breaking.

Actually you can bend it but it requires a special heating blanket that gets the PVC hot so you can bend it.
I don't think the looks would be that bad but the ID/OD may be to much of a mismatch but it may work fine.

The gray colored PVC used for electrical conduit would probably work. You can bend and form it and you can order 90s. There is a grade rated for indoor/outdoor sunlight resistant. But, I'm thinking it would be on the ugly side.

Hey!!!!

I used PVC pipe to make my cold air kit and besides it being PVC pipe, it turned out damned good. Of course I didn't think about painting it black until AFTER I had glued it all together on the car but will figure something out.

I mounted the filter behind the headlight but more behind the drivers airdam. I also relocated the IAT so I could see the difference and it is generally within 3 degrees of ambient. Made the whole thing for about 25 bucks in home depots parking lot. :D :D

Cold air kit is another matter.... You aren't dealing with superheated air and elevated pressure.

Just thought id add, that when i go to the dragstrip, on sunday, when all the serious faster people are there, there are several imports that are turbocharged. the ones that are on a budget, do so with junkyard parts. about 4 of em there, had intercoolers from volvos, and used PVC pipe for the piping that goes to the intercooer and stuff. they painted it black, and i didnt notice. it must have worked well, because some of these little inline 6s and 4 bangers were runnin 12s. so, im sure if you got some pipe, cut it to fit, it would work just fine, and for a total of about 30 bucks, it would be cheaper than some muffler shop makin you pipes. Oh, and the pipe seemed to hold up fine on the guys car i was talkin too, no melting or nothin, and he had had it on there for about 15K miles. i think its not a question of wether or not the PVC pipe will work and be durable, but wether or not you like the look.

If you want some nice, shiny aluminum pipes, go to autozone, and buy some intake kits for a 2001 honda accord. : ) they are perfect as they are for a cold air MAF pipe, when you cut the angle different at the turbo end. im sure if you can weld aluminum, or use some aluminum brazing rods, then you could section off this pipe, and make up a nice custom made turbo to intercooer pipe perhaps. like those import guys do, make bends with welds. each pipe is aorund 65 to 69 bucks.
