I was thinking about spacing out wheels with a 20mm positive offset. Would I run out of length on the wheel studs to safely get the lug nuts on? If so I guess I'll have to look at the adapters where it's actually a spacer with another set of studs on it.

I wouldn't use spacers or adapters ever, get wheels that fit the car correctly.

Would I run out of length on the wheel studs to safely get the lug nuts on?

That depends, studs have different specs to determine how many turns the lugs should have before seating, depending on length and thickness.

If so I guess I'll have to look at the adapters where it's actually a spacer with another set of studs on it.

Would touch that stuff with a 10-foot pole... but that's just me.

Grab your favorite drink, get comfortable, and read wheel & tire 101...
