I hate to ask this but that video has been all over the web and back. A source of great debate, evidently, is whether the car is actually 'burning out' on the dyno or if the smoke is cause by rubbing on the inner wheel wells. I've watched it lots of times and can't make my own determination.

I don't know why people care, but there's a heated debate on another non-Buick board about it.

Anyone know fer sure?

I was there and would have to say ......ask Chris he is on this board.
I can tell you this the dyno read about 1000RWHP, this is about 400RHWP less than the car makes based on 3450lbs race weight and 175MPH.

I know he's on the board, but it's kind of a silly thing to ask him directly about. If he sees this then great, but it's not that big a deal. It's really meaningless, actually.

I was there too. Definately was spinning the tires. Strapped it down harder between runs with the same result.

How could rubber on the wheel wells smoke like that?

Mark E.

Who cares.....it makes 1,076 rwhp.
Spinning or not, that IS a fact.
He may have lost 400 rwhp which equates to "losing more rwhp than most guys make total".

He was saying the tires may have been rubbing inside the wheel well, causing the smoke.

I've read that cars not strapped properly can smoke the tires easily on the dyno, I've heard of guys doing it at 500-600 RWHP.

Either way I'd saw off my left nut with a spoon to have 1000+ RWHP!

I was at a dyno day and a guy in a LS1 trans am with a 150 shot had to have 3 guys sit in the back hatch to keep him from smoking the tires, so its not too hard to do. With the 150 shot, he was probably only pushing 450 hp. He was on street radials though.

That's my opinion on it, too. But some folks just love Internet bench racing so much that they have to find fault in everything. If it was spinning, they dyno's not showing all the HP. If it wasn't spinning, it still showed 1076 HP which is amazing. Spinning or not it doesn't take anything away from the car at all. That's why I hesitated to even ask.
