Hi all. Just was fortunate enough to get my factory wheels refurbished to better than new standard and now need to install them on my '87 GN. I've notice that the center caps have "tabs" on them, however, they are not wide enough to go around the wheel studs.

It what way (pointing straight up towards the "6", at a 45 degree angle, or whatever) are these tabs supposed to be when you go to mount them on the car?

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

You probably dont have the correct lug nuts. Factory ones have a ridge around them to catch those tabs better, yes the tabs are supposed to be bent up and angled slightly inward.

INEEDAGN - The lugnuts that I have are stamped with the word "metric" on the end of them and that I'm aware of, are the factory ones that are correct for the car.

Ok forgive me, I didn't read very thoroughly. The tabs are not supposed to go around the nuts completely, they just butt up against them and rely on all 5 nuts to stay there.

And DONT try pushing the caps on with all the lugs in place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hold the cap in place with one hand and install 1 lug with the other, then a couple more lugs across from it. That'll be enough to hold the cap on while you install the final two nuts.

As Dave said, install two of the nuts loosely then place the cap on and snug them down. Then install the other three nuts. What Ive found is that usually only 3-4 nuts hold the cap on, its rare for all 5 to actually grip the cap if that makes sense.
