Hi all, my problem exists with the turbolink communication with my 86 GN. I have borrowed my freinds Turbolink to assess before I buy one off Ken. I installed the software and hooked the cables up last night...no go!

It keeps saying there is a COM port error? I attempted the troubleshooting section but that was no help. My question is how do I configure my laptop to communicate to the car? I am not a genious with computers but I am stumped here. Everything else seems ok, light is on in the box etc. The t0link worked great on my freinds laptop the other night, but he needed to keep his computer. My laptop is a Dell P4, about a month old.

Any help would be appreciated.

What version are you trying? V2? V3? V4?

What OS is on your laptop?

It's probably something needs tweaked in the Device Manager settings of Windows, but we need a bit more info.

You can also call us at 970.226.3867 and we can walk through some basic install/troubleshooting with you.

Thanks!

Boy I know I am raising the dead from a long time ago, but this is the only "search" that came up with the same problem I got.

I am running Turbolink 4.0 that I bought years ago on a modern gateway XP machine with plently of speed/memory etc... on my 84 T type with the 86 ecm, so I have the 86 regal selected in t link. same thing as above, no cable connection, it recognizes port 4, tests a little longer than other ports, then no go. I get a brief green lit led on the connector during the test.

I tried going to device manager and changing ports, but my machine says ports 1,2 and 3 are in use, not sure where, nothing else is plugged in but that is what it says so port 4 gets it.

does parity or flow control need to be set to something other than "none" in device manager? my bits per second is at default 9600, data bits 8, and stop bits 1.

Inside the advance tab I have COM 4, receive and transmit at 4096, latency timer at 16, and the timeouts are at 0. And off the the right serial enumerator is selected.

Does anything look off? By the way, I got the cable from Saelig, multi-1/USB cable with the drivers loaded from systembase (FTDI drivers) This has worked long before, just have not used it in the last few years.

Shoot this question over to gnttype.org in the scantool section.... you'll find Ken Mosher (tlink inventor) there and he'll be able to help you more than anybody...
