ok fellas i need some advice before i make my next purchase.......

oh well i am goign to buy headers, probli the ceramic ones that poston sells.

well i heard that the stock downpipe sucks azz.
so i been shoppin around on the internet for a new one

i found a stainless 2.5 inch that cotton's sells.

my question is
will this downpipe with a larger diameter actually fit on this car with no mods.
i mean the stock downpipe was a b@tch to get out, when i took my exhaust manifolds off.

i have the stock turbo and stock exhaust housing on the turbo

so i was wondering if some of you hot air guys could give me some advice before i buy.

is it worth getting a 2.5 or should i get a 3 inch
and if so. will a 3 inch fit without mods?

or maybe you could tell me what u bought for your car
i'd appreciate any input
thanx alot

brian

thanx for your input

The 3" DP is a pita to work around(ie, change plugs, engine has to be stone cold to even attempt, need to run a compression test/leakdown test??? fuhgedabouddit!!! Not gonna happen)...I would go with the 2.5" just for that reason...Most 3" DPs are 2 piece, but it is easier to get the DP in when the passenger side header is not on...Have fun getting the header bolts in with the 3" DP, too...2.5" would probably be all that you will ever need...

I've got a 3" DP and it is a bastard to work around and also, it is really close to the heater/ac box and other things over there where the pipe goes down...

I have and ATR www.atrperformance.com and I love it! I didn't have to take the pass. header off to take the old DP out, but I sure as hell did to get the new one back in :( . It took some time, but now that I did the 2.5" ATR downpipe after hearing some stories about the 3"ers, I'm glad I went with the 2.5". I love it...noticed a good improvement in spool up.

Hope that helps, and let us know what you end up doin...

John

ps...might what to change the up-pipe while your at it...this combo works well together ;) The up-pipe is $90, and the DP is $130 (in-case you were wondering :D )

i put an atr 2.5" d/p on my hotair motor...great pipe fit well and made a big butt dyno difference..:)

hehe...was that the "big butt" dyno difference or...
the big "butt dyno" difference...;) :D

Another vote for ATR stuff right here.

My car has the ATR headers, 2 1/2"DP, x-over and up-pipe. Very good fit and it comes with an extended downpipe where the cat converter bolts up. You can cut to the length you want under the car - if you wanted a test pipe etc.

It was pricey altogether - 895 bones - but what great stuff....stainless T304 mandrel pipes.

Works good for exhaust up grade

I have the ATR down pipe also. I upgraded to the 86-87 exhaust by running mine through a gutted 86-87 cat. I cut it even with the end of the cat and just bolted the 86-87 exhaust right up. No need for welding.

Are there any vendors that even sell a 3 incher? I am going to make my own terrry houston elbow but I have decided to hook it up to an atr d/p.

Just a warning...;) You won't like to work on your car after you put a 3" DP on... Complete and utter PITA ...

If you do the TH 3" elbow, if I were you, I would mate it to 2.5" lower section...Just kind of gradually neck it down until it fits into the 2.5" lower...

Ideally, if you don't need A/C, remove the a/c along with the big box on the firewall and come straight out of the turbo and straight down the firewall if you want to keep it 3"...JMO...

edit...
What turbo are you planning on running with a 3" DP??? IMO, you can't put a big enough turbo on top of the motor in the stock 84/5 turbo location to outflow the 2.5", let alone the 3"...If you are just planning on bolting it to your stock turbo in your sig., then it is a waste of time to do it, and will make your car even more of a PITA to change plugs on...Heck, I may even do that on mine(neck it down to fit a 2.5" lower section, BTW, I do have a TH 3" upper on mine, with a 3" Action Fab. lower)

how much pipe do you really need my i/c motor runs well over 120 in the 1/4 that putting out over 550 hp and i've only got a hooker d/p which is either 2 1/2 or 2 3/4.

in going 3" when i strap on the te-45 turbo
