rain + "volt" light =?

So tonight it was raining pretty hard.. My radio fuse kept blowing out and I would replace it.. My car is at my house now, but now that it is turned off my "volt" light is on.. Does anyone know why this is occuring? Thanks

A short is back feeding the system. Disconnect the NEG batt cable. That will prevent killing the batt, til U can find the problem..

Okay, any suggestions on how to find the short? I don't know anything about electronics.. just look for an exposed wire or something?

Unplugging the alternator should make the light go off.You might need a new voltage regulator,inside the alternator.

hmm, but if I unhooked the alternator wouldn't the car battery keep dying?

Don't drive it around with it unplugged,just unplug it to see if the light on the dash goes out.You may need to replace the voltage regulator.

ahhh okay. thanks man.. I am charging my battery right now and I will try that when it's done.. IF that is the case, and the VOLT light turns off when I unhook the alternator, does that mean that the alternator is probably causing the issues?

Not necessarily,it could also be somewhere under the dash.Have done any wiring under the dash recently?

I put in a cd player in the beginning of the year, but I just checked that and all the wires seemed to be ok.. do I just unhook the plug going into the alternator to disconnect it?

Yes,it just unplugs.
But the power to the light should be gone with the key off,it gets B+ voltage through the ignition switch.It seems your fuse blowing,and alternator light being on,are probably a related issue.

Okay, yea I don't know what the deal is, but I was blowing fuses everytime I would close the door last night in the rain, and its the "clock" fuse which controls my interior lights and my radio.. I replaced my interior lights with leds this summer too, but that shouldn't be an issue right?

I would suspect any non-stock accessories or wiring in the interior.

Just so y'all know, it turns out it was the alternator.. replaced it, and the problem was fixed..
