Should i sand and re-finish my hardwood floors or should i pay someone to do it? It will cost about $900 to pay someone.or i could do it myself. Is it worth it???

thanks-kurt

go to home depot, rent a big ass floor sander & do it yourself. Its not hard.

I paid someone, they sanded 3 times, very dusty. Afterward, I couldn't understand why my A/C did not work, the filter was clogged with dust. They also filed in holes and covered the old heat registers as well. They did 3 bedrooms, 1/2 kitchen, and the hallway etc. $1500

I have pics if you want.....

I just redid my kitchen floor last week. I had done an addition 12 years ago and did the floor when it was new so this time it was just a matter of taking the finish off. I rented at Home Depot. I used the drum style last year on my daughter's house. It had the new style with expanding style rubber drum. It worked well. For my house I used a different style machine. It had four 6" velcro on discs that spin orbitaly like a buffer. It was very easy to use. In fact because it sands in all directions I moved faster than the drum style. The disc style didn't cup the floor like the drum style does. Dust wasn't that bad. I put down 2 sanding sealer coats and 3 coats of water based Polyurethane. Started sanding Thursday night, finshed last coat Poly on Saturday morn. Put the table back on Sunday. Machine rental (4 hours) and discs came to $100, sealer and poly was another $60. Applicator and pads about $15. Looks great. I only had to use 40 grit on a few areas. If your floor is not in good shape you'll need 36 to start.

Do it yourself, it's not that hard. Keep the windows open and tape off the doorways with some plastic to the rooms that you're not sanding to keep the dust out. You will save a lot of $$$.
Me and my girlfriend did hers a couple years ago, glad we did it ourselves.
