Found for sale GM 3.42 ring and pinion from a 1999 WS6. I want to buy them but don't know for sure if they will fit either of the two places I may use them.

1 - 1987 T-Type
2 - 1979 Trans Am

Can anyone fill me in?

Thx, Tom

I think they still are using the 7.625" ring gears in the newer stuff. What you want to put them in takes 8.5" ring gear. Nope, they won't work. -Chuck

Monte 383 is correct. That gear out of the ws6 won't fit either axle you want to put them in.

You can use late model (99 up) GM truck gears. They are a 8.625 ring gear that is cross-referenced to a 8.5" 10 bolt.

I just put a set of Richmond 8.5" gears in my newer Silverado.

Mine are for sale: 40,000 miles gears are mint. 3.42 ratio 8.625/8.5" ring gear.

How much?

1999 WS6 is a lil 10 bolt 7.625/7.5

both the cars you list are 8.5 rear cars...definate no go.
