Rear End Indentification?

HELLO,

CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I HAVE A '84 GN, OUT OF CURIOSITY I DECIDED TO CHECK AND SEE IF MY REAR END WAS A POSI-UNIT AND IT WASN'T, I THOUGHT ALL GN's CAME WITH A POSI-UNIT REAREND AND I WAS PISSED TO FIND OUT IT WASN'T NOT TOO SURE WHAT KNID OF REAREND IT IS, ALL I KNOW THAT IT'S A 10-BOLT PATTERN 3.42 GEARS I BELIEVE(THATS WHAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER TOLD ME), DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A POSI UNIT, JUST THE POSI-UNIT, WITH GETTING A WHOLE NEW REAREND OR HOW I CAN CHECK TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF GEARS IT HAS? THANK YOU

Look on the bright side, non posi cars got the aluminum brake drums instead of steel. There's a 60K mile stock posi sitting in my garage if you're interested.

Slow Down

Dude I don't know how plentiful 8 1/2 rears are there but, keep the rear and change the carrier. I've been looking for a fair priced 8 1/2 around here and their alll gone. Every car in the salvage yard that had one is gone posi or not.
By the way the reason I've been looking for one is, someone swaped mine for a 7 1/2 with 3:08 gears. I now have a 7 1/2 posi with 3:73 but, it's not original. Not all GN's came with posi. They all came with 8 1/2 rear ends and posi was an opt.
