Hi guys, looking into a peg leg car with no G80 option. Did a little hw on the posi lockers people install and these seem to be the most popular. Let me know which (if any) you recommend. Looking to keep the 8.5 with the stock 28 spline axles. CAR IS NOT A RACE CAR. Very close to stock and i intend on keeping it that way. No slicks/drag radials here. Just like to see smoke from both tires :) Looking for the most streetable, quiet unit that wont give me problems turning or make noises. Thanks.

Lockers:

I liked the eaton in the 8.5,not sure why you wouldn't get a nice set of 28 moser axles when its out,but its a solid combo.

Both of the lockers are easy install, but they will be noisy. The powertrax, from experience in a small block Cutlass, will snap continuously on a turn and only lasted about 1 year before it started slipping and needed replacement. I had a Richmond No-slip traction locker(quite model) in my Silverado and it would snap once when it disengaged and quite the rest of the time. I had it in the truck for 4 years pushing 500 hp and no problems. Did have a lot of slop, felt like the rear-end was loose when letting off the gas.
The Eaton is by far the best, but requires the rear end to be set up with new bearings and proper back lash. So plan on more parts and labor.

After studying all the types of differential lockers I decided on the Truetrac for a number of reasons. I have yet to install it but its going in soon. BTW Summit has it for $90 cheaper w/ free shipping than the Randy's link you posted.

Eaton, have to get bigger bearings for it. Also, get new moser 30 spline axles and ARP wheel studs, new cclips, if its all coming out anyways. No reason to stay with the 28 if its all getting replaced.

Give Moser a call, they'll get you straight.

Eaton 28 with Moser axles. Plenty strong for your goals.
