what are your thoughts on using a gasket and rtv sealer? The original had no gasket or sealer. I used both and it leaked. I am not sure i had it torqued enough, i want the second try to be correct. I am almost done getting it going.

Just use right stuff with no gasket. Make sure everthing is clean and dry. If the bolt holes on the cover were over tightened before it will not let the cover sit flush. there is a gasket from the factory. Its probably stuck to the housing. Scrapr off the cover and the housing with a razor blade. good luck
The gasket was stuck to the housing. I managed to get it off, it was so dirty and worn I thought it was the housing. No wonder the new gasket failed. I will probably be fine now. I assume the right stuff is a product name. how much do you use?
Just did mine...used a felpro gasket...no leaks...I hate rtv because of thbe cleanup in the future...next to loctite, its the most over used product in the autmotive industry...hehehe

I just changed the grease in my car yesterday because the rear end was making a "chattering" noise when I would turn a corner or when backing out of the driveway. All I used was the Fel-pro gasket with no sealer of any kind on it. It worked fine, doesn't leak, and the rearend doesn't make that noise anymore! In addition to the 2 quarts of lube, I also put in a 4 ounce bottle of additive for positraction rears.
