Just had the pan gasket and rear main seal replaced, used a new neoprene rear main, and used all GM recommended sealant, and the car still had a drip right by the bottom of the pan/inspection cover idea.

My mechanic suggests some dye and a blacklight to see where its coming from.

Will the dye hurt anything?

I need some help, I don't want this car leaking oil, my inlaws are pi**ed off about the spots in thier driveway  and frankly I don't blame them.

A nice car shouldn't leave oil all over. If I wanted an oil leak, I would buy a Harley!:D

TIA

Chris

And if I wanted an oil leak, I would buy a TR....oh wait, I did buy one!

Permatex ultra blue

I read an article in GM hi tech mag that if you put Permatex ultra blue across the rear main cap it would stop the leak.
That's what I did but only drove the car about 70 miles since then. No leaks..............yet.

Have you checked the Valve covers?, I thought my motor was leaking from the rear main after 500 miles but it turned out to be the Valve cover was loose:rolleyes:

Valve covers, Rear of intake, Rear Cam Thrust Plug??
I just did my main and rear seal also, now the main and pan are very dry, but I still have a small leak out the oil pump gear housing since I mistakenly put that crappy long gear pump assemlby in my car. I got the kit from the infamous BCG, they screwed me and gave the wrong bolts for the assembly and I think some of the hole threads started to strip didn't allow me to reach true torque spec......Gotta hate those BGC theives...glad to see they are not around anymore. When I take the High Volume pump off, I am going to helicoil the threads.
In addition, I do have a slight oil drip coming from the back of my engine also. I am going to tighen the valve covers. If that doesn't work, I will reseal the intake. If that doesn't work, then I think that thrust plug for the cam is leaking ;-)

Oil Leak

Chirs:

To answer your orignial question the dye put in to detect leaks won't hurt your engine. It's better to do the blacklight thing than to replace/loosen things that don't need it. Just my .02 worth.
