Which is the best rear main seal to get, whats the part # and where can i get it?Thanks

Don't know the number off hand but the fel-pro 2 piece neoprene seal is the one to get. You can get it at autozone.

BS40613 is the FelPro part number, I believe. Its the neoprene one. Make sure you use the pins too, and let the RTV cure before you run the car.

I need to do mine again as well.

How long does the RTV have to cure?

Preferably overnight. Make sure you either use the pins to poke up into the RTV or use a wet piece of thin wire. BTW, the pins are not used in the install for our application. If not, the RTV will not cure. I skipped this step the first time, and the RTV was still not cured after 3+ days of sitting with oil pan off.

Thanks for the info. How long does the RTV have to cure?

I just did one in a GN. I used the Right Stuff that comes in the pressurized can (about $15 from Autozone.) I did not use pin things except to pop the the possible air bubbles. They did not stay in the car. Just shoved the can in there till it ran out the sides. The Right Stuff states that it is ready for service right after the application. The car I did in sat for a day before I started it up beacause it needed other stuff too. I'd give it about an hour at least if using the Right Stuff.

The car has about 200 miles on it and no leaks at all. The Right Stuff is the sh**!

I'm confused! I need to replace mine but what are these pins you guys are talking about? Is'nt the seal a 2 piece seal?

Don't worry about the pins or the side inserts. Yes, the seal is a two piece design, but it also has other applications other than our cars.

The kit will come with two "half-moon pieces" These are the seals. It will also come with two plastic pics that are meant to be inserted on either side of the main cap. Most of us do not use them, just squeeze in some RTV...

Or if KevinB is right, I might consider trying some of the "right stuff" instead.

x2 on the "right stuff". Been using it for years, especially before I got out of the auto repair business. The is used in place of gaskets on all sorts of factory engines.

Not sure what you plan on doing with the car (high boost, etc) but I had the cometic neoprene rear main in mine and it started to leak. I followed the big block chevy rear main thread and it seems to be a much better seal. It takes some time to modify the seal though.
