I was told by John(Quad Air) that Redd tried the gt67 and was very unhappy with its performance at the nats. Dont know any details. Anyone know anything about this? I have been mulling over buying this turbo or possibly the te45a. Someone went 9.90s at the nats with the 45a I was told. Some verification on this would be enlightning also. :) thanks

The story I heard was that he experienced unusually high inlet manifold air temps at high boost with the GT 67 mm compressor wheel. He went back to the 66 mm turbo for the Nats. The implication is that the GT 67 wheel might not be as efficient at high boost levels.

I also heard about the Gt67 possible problems at higher boost levels and decided to go with the TE45A just last week. Installed last Thur. and I had a big smile planted on my face for the pass 3 days. :):):)

The 67 is not as efficient as the 66 at high boost levels. The 66 loves high boost. The 67 will make more power at lower boost levels.

The 66 and the 67 move about the same amount of air though.

67 turbo's should be run with a 4" inlet compressor cover.

The 67 in Red's case was being restricted by the Inlet Bell type rules for the class requirements.

In any event a 67GTQ will make more power than a 66P or Old style 66Q.
Although Red was probably running a 66GTQ, which may have allowed higher boost to be run thru the more restrictive inlet, than what a 67 wheel would require.

When you guys say the GT67 doesn't like high boost what kind of boost are we talking here? I am looking at this turbo for my truck to upgrade my 61mm and plan on running between 13-15psi max.

15lbs won't be a problem from the standpoint of 'high boost' but you may be operating in a surge area. Check a compressor map vs your engine to see if it'll be OK.

I think high is over 25 psi or so; to some people high is over 35 :-).

Sorry for being a noob but where can I find a site with lots of compressor maps to look at?

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have :)

I'll let everyone know how the new GT67 works out on my truck maybe next week or so.

Video - I like it! I like it a lot!!! That is a kick azz truck! I have a 2002 Z71 Surburban that's lifted and thought about supercharging or turbocharging it in the future.

Does your Z71 have the 5.3ltr in it? and how har was it to installs the kit?

Thanks - Ray

The air moving capabilty of the 66 and the 67 are pretty darn close.

Red was running the GT67. He was not able to get the power he wanted at the boost levels that he wanted to run. Not sure how high he was going, but I have a feeling it was in the 30 range.
