I am having some issues with my fridge and was hoping someone could help me or point me in the right direction to get help.

My fridge will not keep a steady temperature. I will leave it at one setting and the temp will creep up or down. The fluxation is pretty serious, like 15-20 degrees. I don't keep a whole lot in the fridge, but it is still something I would like to take care of. I haven't put a thermometer in the freezer yet, but I guess I should to see if that moves around too.

TIA,
Ron

Could be a few things...how old is the fridge...they do wear out and it could be the compressor going...also could be the temp sensor...make sure you don't have a buildup of dust on the condensor coil...that can cause the temps to fluctuate...most of the times though it's the defrost timer...they seem to wear out quicker than anything else...I had a problem with my fridge recently where at times the temp would be OK then another day it would be warmer then back to cold...I did clean a lot of dust off the coil but the ultimate fix was to replace the defrost timer...it cost me about $30 and about an hour of my time...

My father is a specialist with Sears, I called him and asked him about your problem. He has been working for Sears for, I want to say, 10 years now. He is an H/VAC tech but works on refridgerators every day.

He had a lot of questions but I couldnt give him any answers becuase your post didnt have much more than the problem. My father is the best person in the world and will call you to help you diagnose what the problem is.

If you want my father to call you (this would give you a professional opnion) email me your phone number at ashoberg@jasc.com. The call would originate from a 612 number and his name is Al just so you wont be surprised. :)

Thanks for the replies!

The fridge is about 2 years old, a fridgedaire side by side purchased from sears. The temp is holding fine right now, but I am sure it will swing up or down again in a week or two. I will pull it out and see if there is a big build up of dust anywhere.

whut,
I am shooting you an email.

Thanks again,
Ron

I called my father and gave him your number. He is going to see the doctor tomorrow morning for a shoulder injury and said he would call you when he gets done with that. Should be around 10:30 AM central time.

With your thread info he says you may be able to get it fixed for free because Sears has a five year warranty on the sealed system. He says after he talks to you tomorrow he should know if its a compressor problem or not. He also says Frigidair is known for freon leaks which would be covered under your warranty.

Good luck on getting it running again. Nothing worse than coming home hungry and finding everything in your fridge warm.

one thing to check is make sure that the vent holes from the freezer to the fridge are clean and not blocked.

I havent had a chance to talk to my father today, did he call you? If so, did he get everything resolved for you?

Whut,
Your father did call and was very helpful! He knew what it was from the first moment. I have ordered the part and will be fixing it this week. Sears no longer is fixing the Service Flash, so... I will be taking care of this one. It shouldn't be too bad though.
Please thank him again for me!
Ron
