regal crome front bumper?

does any one know if the regular regal front bumpers were crome or crome plate?

If you're thinking of repainting you'll need to sandblast. Otherwise, I think chlorine eats chrome.

Having the plating/processing stripped off at a plating/processing shop would probably be the easiest. I don't think that there is a simple"do it yourself process" for chrome plating removal. There again, this is just a wild guess.

I just scuffed mine with heavy scotchbrite pads, cleaned it real good, and shot self etching primer, and paint. Has held up very well.

Have any of you restored a chrome bumper? I'm in the process of doing mine, and I'd like to prep mine as well as possible before they go out for chroming.

I've seen some info from Jeff Lilly restorations on how they do theirs, but I can't find much info on how to prep the steel, sand them, fill scratches, etc. Obviously, you can't use autobody materials for scratchcoating, and I'd like to get these as perfect as possible.

Any help would be awesome.

I'm gonna talk with a buddy of mine that has restored tons of cars for people and see what he says. I know he's taken bumpers to the chrome shop in the past, he might kinow.

If they're to be rechromed at a chrome shop you'll need to remove all the chrome for best results. The best way to do this yourself is sandblasting. Otherwise the chrome shop should take care of all prep work.
