Regular tires for stock size wheels

My 87 GN is a daily driver with stock size Weld wheels. It seems 15" tires in a performance size are getting hard to find. The obvious vendors list only the BFG Radial TAs and Cooper Cobras. I currently have the TAs and traction is not there under any daily driver conditions - start, stop, curves, and rain. (I use drag radials at the track.) Question 1 is are the Coopers any good traction wise for normal street driving? Question 2 is what are people moving up to in a 16" or 17" where there are more choices. This is a daily driver. I don't want to break the bank. I just want a good performance tire which I can drive without fear of locking them up in normal driving. Thanks.
