When replacing valve springs, do I need to change the retainer or locks? I have a set of comp cams 980 90lb springs. I need to replace the valve covers due to leaking so I thought while I'm in there to replace the springs, just to ensure I have good ones.

You should not need to. But do replace your valve seal while you are there.

You can re use the stock retainers and locks. Something I do is buy several replacement locks. I always drop one in the garage and hate to have to stop during the job for a replacement. As stated above , replace the seals.

valve seals

should I just get standard stock valve seals? I have changed springs before and I realize its time consuming. are the valve seals easy to change out

The seals just pull right off with your fingers. I believe the ones I used were Fel Pro Blue in color.
