I've got the window weatherstrip rails out of the car and need to either replace the entire clip or get the plastic piece off the new clip and glue it onto the old one. Anyone ever replace the entire clip. What kind of rivot did you use?

Unless the metal part of the original clip is mangled I would simply remove the plastic cover on a new clip and slip it over the original clip. Heat up the new clip with a hair dryer and the plastic cover will slip off and your done. I have done this twice before and it worked so well I thought I was dreaming.

That's the hard way.

Just drill out the two rivets and use the same style of sheet metal screw that is used on the roof rail weatherstrip retainers to hold it back on the car. If you're clever you wont even have to remove the retainers to replace it. All you need to do is drill 2 new starter holes for the screws.
