Looking for some advice.....Below is what one company claims their reprogrammed PCM will do. I'm a new GS owner (one week) and come from owning a Turbo Regal for the last 23 years....and being able to change the prom in the ECM. Is it a good idea to reprogram the GS PCM for basic mods (Cold air intake, plugs, thermostat, U-bend delete and 3 inch DP?) Or is it a bunch of sales hype??

Standard binary file - $99.99
Ideal for stock to slightly modded cars with induction mods, exhaust mods, smaller supercharger pulley and/or rocker arms - features speed limiter removal, slightly higher shift points (~6,000 RPM)** and rev limiter (6,200 RPM) , proprietary transaxle shift behavior adjustments**, air/fuel adjustments, automatic ignition timing adjustments (+3°), knock retard decay rate adjustment, cooling fan control adjustments (180°), cooling fans on at key-off for 180 seconds, will require the use of premium fuel.

a cookie cutter pcm is better than nothing (definately not sales hype) but even a basic tune with the car present so you can base adjustments off scan data for timing & fueling is better than even the best tuners educated guess ( if its allready got kr like most stock cars do you want to add 3*timing?)

unless you send them the pcm from your car it should have a case learn performed ( tech 2 or hp tuners)

I also prefer to remove all torque management from engine & transmission tabs on a 3800 most cookie cutter tunes olny remove 1/2 or thereabouts - thats power left on the table

post where you are from someone near you with a tuner may be able to help you.

any car with a couple mods will benefit from a tune and as long as you only write calibration instead of write entire the pcm will tolerate a lot of reflashes , my 202k mile daily driver has been reflashed hundreds of times without issue
