hey i am just wondering how the reputation is on the PT54 Turbos, I mean like are they a good strong turbo upgrade or do they seem to have a lot of problems with them or any kind of info like that on these turbos.

thanks
chris

That turbo has actually been around for a LONG time. Precision renamed it to give the TR guys less of a head ache when choosing turbos.

This turbo is VERY reliable and has been a smile-maker for a lot of customers.

I've had mine for a few years and haven't had any problems. It will take a fairly high stall to get it moving. I have the .85 housing and an AC 3500 nl converter and it seems to be matched pretty good. If you had a smaller housing at 3200 stall may work.

The .63 housing will work perfect with a 3200 stall. It's a really great street turbo. Perfect manners and very good power.

This turbo is also called a TE-61. I love mine, perfect for street/strip. i have a 9"nonlockup, about 3100 stall. Spools great. Low 11s at only 25psi with a 100%stock motor and suspension. i coul not launch as hard as I wanted, I have a T-brake, and 27" 11.5 wide Quick time pros, ....1.60 60' at about 7-8psi on launch. i will try bigger tires. Of course I could build more boost with a T-brake, but the tires would not hold. this turbo can easialy go mid 10s with head work and a little more boost.

Just to clarify some things.
The PT54 has a 60 trim compressor wheel with a 2.30" Inducer and 3.00" exducer and a TO4 69 trim turbine wheel which has a 2.920" inducer and 2.420" exducer. Comes standard with the TO4E compressor cover (3" inlet 2" discharge) This turbo has the capability of supporting up to 620 flywheel hp when maxed out and has been a very good turbo.

One other thing, don't confuse the TE-61 with our PT61 turbo as they are completely different in relation to wheel combinations.
Our PT61 uses the Garrett GT35R's compressor wheel and the 76 trim T350 turbine wheel. Also comes standard with the TO4E compressor cover. The PT61 is rated to support up to 650 flywheel hp when maxed out and has been a very popular turbo. Both of these turbos will work really well with a 3200-3500 stall converter.
One other thing people need to remember is, the factory oil system on these cars is very poor to begin with. This is why we highly recommend our Oil System which helps reduce the chances of oil contamination to the turbo. The Oil System provides filtered oil to the turbo, vs unfiltered oil with the stock oil feed setup.

Oil is the most important with a turbos life span. I learned that a motor with miles on it, and bearings going bad will kill a turbo fast! Many Turbo failures are soon followed by a motor failure. It was probably the motor that screwed up the turbo first. Like the chicken/egg debate. Putting a filter between the two, and propper oil supply will save a turbo, many people (including myself) have blamed a poorly built turbo for failure too soon. Must be hard to argue with customers about turbos going bad. I feel for you.(vendors)
