Well, I've seen it all now. In the local mall there are actually TWO rice only part "performance" (if you can call it that) stores. But as me and my 5 year old daughter were browsing in these stores and LAUGHING, they did have about 5 or 6 different boost controllers. They were small devices that looked similar to radar detectors in size/shape with digital boost controls. Dumb question, but does anyone think these would work with our cars? I assume it probably should since I think all wastegate systems work on the same principles. I don't remember the brand names as my eyes wear all teared up from laughing so hard. They averaged about $250. I use the grainger valve tuner setup now with the ATR wastegate and it would be nice to be able to control boost from in the car and looking at all the options for this.

Thank You,
Derrick

P.S. The rice crowd looks at you funny when you go into their shops and your 5 year old daughter laughs out loud at the scenes of pure obsurdity rice parts!!!! :D

Innovative Turbo Systems makes an electronic boost controller that I've seen on a couple of TRs.

Yes, very nice unit, BUT $500

One more dumb question. I did a search for boost controllers on here and someone mentioned that the BstC controller (or maybe it was the ANS controller) had a couple leads that spliced into some wires by the ECM connection for the 3rd and 4th gear controls. Are there wires there that sense the gear? I thought that the ECM didn't know what gear the tranny is in. The reason being is I have a B&M shifter in the car and I would love to be able to set the controller to allow me to control boost in each gear. But can't think of any real way to do that unless I could sense the gear the tranny was in.

Thanks,
Derrick

The innovative controller looks really interesting. I'm gonna try and go back to the rice store and see what they have there again.

I have been using a ricer manual boost controller on my GN for over a year now.

The best $50 I ever spent on my car. Spools up so fast I have to change to a larger turbo because on 17 psi the car is chirping on a hammer down at 35 to 40 mph. (stock unported heads)

I would get a ball bearing one with an adjustment screw and look out. With the adjustable wastegate rod, I figured out an incredible trick that the even the ricers can not do to increase spool up. But we can. :D

Get one, you will like it. The $50 one I have on the car only spikes 1/2 psi in first and is solid even at 22 psi.

I use the blitz dsbc-id on a fairly moded syclone with a pte52. I love it boost control is dead on no matter what, downpipe capped or uncapped it doesnt care. However it is $500 it also has some other really cewl features email me if you have any questions about it. I also run innovatives boost controller on the buick,

Greddy makes the Profec-A and Profec-B controlers. They are both exclent products. But stay away from the Apex controller. As long as you have the right harness you can run any electronic controller you want. Good luck.

The ECM does know what gear the tranny is in. Inside the tranny there are pressure switches for third and fourth gear that feed signal back to the ECM. The BstC will works exactly as you would like it to.

Do the higher priced controllers work with the stock solenoid and wastegate system? Innovative and Greddy?

I scored a MINT HKS EVC2 on ebay for $150. These work PERFECT and are easy to hook up and control.. They arn't make anymore by HKS tho. Now they have the $650 digital multi led lit 'ricer' controllers.. The old EVC 2's were the BEST.. and still are..

Most my friends drive turbo ricers, and i have seen just about all the ones made. The A'pexi AVC-R has tons of features, like reading values off the ECU. it uses a solenoid to control boost. From what ive seen it tends to drop off boost after a few seconds, and isn't that responsive probly worst than stock. And for $630 a total waste of money. The Profec A is crap IMHO, you need a small screwdriver just to manipulate most of the controls. Also has major boost spike. Too much work for $595. The Profec B is the good one also cheaper $400. Maintains steady boost and has a cool hi/low boost settings that can be switched from the steering wheel (for when you hit 3rd gear switch to a lower boost). The Blitz SBC-id has a really cool display that can read MAF, PW, TPS and others and keeps boost consistent. I think it uses dual solenoids that can be run parallel or sequentialy. It really improved response on a RX-7 that was laggy before. The only thing is that the boost gauge showed different readings then the control unit did. But at $680, why? The HKS EVC should not be sold to minors. When set to 16#'s on an Eclispe it boosted to over 20, oh well the owner thought it was cool. It uses a stepper motor which i dont think was fast enough. There is supposed to be a newer version from HKS called the silver edition, but the price tag is upwards of $750 (ouch). The best boost controller ive seen so far is the bleeder valve because no matter what you cant beat the price. But from what ive read on the board if you want a good one for your GN go with the BstC for $159 it will do fine. By the way most of the ricer controllers read boost in bar, or millimeters of mercury. Here in America, we read it in PSI:cool:

I have the blitz as stated before in the prev post. It will take up to 3 other inputs. THE BEST on my sy is one for intake air temp, knock sensor and I want to do the O2 sensor but have not had time to hook it up. Ill state it again boost control with this unit has been rock solid dead on. I have an innovative and it will fluctuate about .25psi or so. Yeah I know thats not much.

innovatice is on the buick
the blitz is on the syclone
