RJC boost controller initial setup?

I got my RJC boost controller in the mail. The instructions are horrible. I understand that according to the instructions you want to back the actuator rod back off so that it's an 1/8" away from the puck connection at rest. But what about the boost controller itself? What should it be set at? And how do you adjust up or adjust down the controller to achieve the appropriate boost level? Do you use the adjustable wastegate rod to adjust anything anymore, and if so under what circumstances...

I have an external but I will try and help. I believe you want the rod on your Wg to be tight enough just to keep boost from blowing it open. Example: If you want to run 20 psi ...set the rod on the WG to open at say 15 psi. Make a run and verify. Then install the RJC inline from the compressor to the WG port. If the RJC is screwed all the way in it will be at its highest setting. Start in the middle and back it out to lower boost or tighten it to raise boost.

You have to think of it like this: The RJC is now your MAX boost controller. Your turbo will spool up to 20 psi of boost before the RJC spring/ball comes off the seat allowing boost to go to your WG. Once the boost hits your wastegate its at max psi and since the the setting on your rod is 15 psi it will yank it open and give you insta spool. The whole point of the RJC is not to let ANY boost to the WG until its at the max amount you want thereby letting the turbo build boost quicker.

My RJC is rock solid at 25 psi.

Now that makes some sense...use the wastegate rod for rough adjustment, and get it close (your example was 15psi), and then fine-tune with the RJC BC (your example was 5 additional psi for a total of 20psi).... And so using your example, if I wanted to adjust to 22psi, I would then adjust the RCJ BC to open at 22psi, since I already have the adj wastegate rod rough adj to 15psi, correct?

I adjusted mine to the 1/8 inch like he says...I had the controller set in the middle....then tested it around the neighborhood.....adjusting up or down...1 turn is about 1psi....

however...

thats was with a T63E turbo... I recently had to switch back to the stock unit (not for long) and I had to do some adjusting with the rod because no matter how far out I had the controller I was hitting 25psi...so I made the rod longer and started in the middle with the controller again......hope you understand this....

I would just go play with it a bit...I agree the directions where a touch confusing...I called and it made more sense talking with him....

I had it dailed in, in no time and really love it...turbo comes on a lot harder

my rod is at 1/8 in preload and the rjc is all the way in and i get 24 psi then i turn the wastegate 2 turns to get 26 psi with the rjc turned all the way out i get 16 psi

Keep playing with it and you will find thru some test n tune whats the best combination of rod/rjc adjustment to get the best spool rate.

Most of the setups I've seen, and mine as well, is to have the WG rod turned out to acheive 20lbs of boost without the RJC unit in place. Then with the RJC unit, mounted per the instructions, turned completely out so almost all the threads are visible should still yeild 20#'s of boost. As stated earlier, one turn equals roughly 1# of boost and there should be roughly 10#'s of adjustment in the RJC as you screw it in tighter so there should be 30#'s total with the unit screwed all the way in.

I have mine set up this way, 20#'s baseline and five turns in on the RJC and I get 25#'s of boost. Works great

Does any one know what kind of spring is in this RJC valve. I opened mine up too much and the spring fell out into the bottomless pit of the engine bay. I need to replace it.
