I put some M/T 28x12.5x15 ET streets on last night. Weld wheels, 15x8 W/3.5 backspace. No clearance problems inside, but unless I air up my airbags to 20lbs, they are rubbing on the outside under a hard launch. Soooo, I need to roll my fender lip. Question. Do you remove the wheel lip trim? Do you leave it off or try to roll it too and re-install? Most say to use a baseball bat against the tire, but the tire is soft and it just deflected on my initial test. Any hints or comments welcome.
Thanks,
Larry

Remove the trim piece.
Cut (optional) slits the lip at 10 o'clock, 11 ,12, 1 & 2 o'clock. These slits go but 1/4" the way to the outside of the lip.
The you can use a cresent wrench (with tire removed) to roll the lip up. Be careful to not ding the outside of the fender by pushing the cresent wrench too far up on the inside.
Hope this makes sense.

Gary

Pardon me for butting in, but I curious, what do you do with the trim piece then? I need to do this also.

Nevermind, I just did it, no problem at all. I cut some pie shape pieces out of my trim when I put it back up and then rolled it up also. I kept the two screws closest to the bottom of the trim on both sides to hold it up, seems to work fine. :D

I put my trim pieces up for future use or restoring to original.

By not cutting the outer trim and leaving the 2 screw holes, you can install the trim piece and it would appear that you never rolled the lip.
Just my 2 cents.

Gary :D

TireRack

I believe tirerack.com has a special tool that bolts to the hub and has something like a skateboard wheel on the end of a stick, similar to the baseball bat method. You might want to ask for Luke, he has the knowledge and is a car nut too.

If both tires rub the lip then Id say, roll or grind it. Quite often it's just one side that rubs and the other side still has a bit of room. Many of the Difs. were not centered from the factory. After mounting 275/60/15 s on mine I realized that the rear end was off set about 3/8 in. to the right. this made the outside of my right tire rub the fender lip and the inside of my left tire touch the frame rail. The fix that worked for me was to center the rear out with adjustible upper control arms. Poston's has them for about $280.00 :( . The good news was that I did'nt have to cut up or roll my fender lip:) .

Gene, Yes I think they were Metco. Not 100% sure though. I was very impressed with the workmanship. You can also adjust your pinion angle with them. Mike

good grief guys dont cut the cars up:( go buy a wooden baseball bat find the thickness you need on the bat wether it be the part where you hold it like your swinging it or further up since it gets thicker as it goes up, find the area you need put it above the tire have someone roll the car foward while another person holds the bat!! very simple!! and wont bend the quarter panel at all;) worked for me!!:p looks like the factory did it :D

I would go with Chad. There is a special tool that rolls the lip. I forgot where I saw it though. I think it was a Chevy mag. They did a 68 Camaro, and it looked factory done. HTH.
