I've got a comp cam installed. I had .005 cam thrust. Now after the engine has been sitting for a week the end play has closed up to .004. I guess the gasket shrunk some. Am I good to go or am I asking for trouble?
Another thing to note is that it was set when it was like 30 degrees and now it's like zero. I hate the winter.
The shop is heated but only when I'm out here.....

It was most likely a combination of the gasket taking a set and the cold weather. The thermal expansion rate of aluminum is right at double that of iron. As the engine gets hotter the timing cover will move away from the cam.
