my engine is running rich... cant figure out why...my car has no mods besides nitrous 16lbs boost.... since this started i've tried changing the o2 sensor (twice)... new air filter... new fuel pump (needed it anyway had nothing to do with this problem) could my tps be bad??? would this thow a code if it was bad? could the tps cause my car to run rich?? since this problem started i've had uneven idle (up down up down you know the routine) and a really strong fuel smell (no leaks)and it stumbles a little when i accelerate from a stop . i'm getting about 30psi at the rail at idle. and no lights or codes from the computer... i'm stumped any ideas?? i have an 85 hot air motor and trans no mods

Do you have any readings for the TPS, you mention a computer, I know on both direct scan and turbo link you can read tps, unless you are still using a 84/85 ecm. Try setting according to direction on www.gnttype.com. I would also check your IAC setting to make sure this is accurate as well.

T P S setting This will help you as well, then you can check where you are at to rule this out. Doesn't hurt to have these correct anyway. Let us know what you find out.

Take care....

Running rich all of a sudden would most likely be caused by something like a temp sensor gone bad or shorted. As long as there are no exhaust leaks and you've replaced the 02. One thing that happened to me, and it's a long shot, is the diaphram in my fuelpressure regulator ruptured and it was sucking raw fuel into the motor. But you've already pulled the line off to check FP so that's not it. Another thing to try is unplug the MAF while it's running and see if it gets any better at idle.

IAC can make the idle unsteady or too low but it can't make it run rich.

can the tps cause it to run rich??? how about an intake manifold gasket leak.. i made a boo boo and had a nitrous back fire not that long ago but it ran fine after.. maybe i have a vacuum leak?? maybe i'll bet a can o' freon and check it out.. like i said i'm stumped.

I was just suggesting he get these working properly while he's at it. Never hurts to have your settings correct before chasing down other issues. TPS sensor doesn't control rich either...

had a BIG vacuum leak!! fixed problem thanks... did my iac and tps while i was at it... runs better than ever..!!! Thanks!

Fantastic. Glad to hear you were able to track down the issue and it's always nice when they run good. Keep us posted interested on how you do.. :D

I had the privledge of meeting Mike this past weekend at the local 1/8 mile track. What a sleeper. If he gets some suspension and a rear end in that thing and he will be running solid low 8 second 1/8 miles. He sure did surprise some of the locals :D

had fun ran low 9's ran mid 8's last year. not my best times but still not bad... think my motor is getting tired.. John's (opeltwinturbo) gn is absolutly beautiful... he kicked my a$$ (low 7) but it was great looking over when he launched and seeing his front wheels a foot off the ground was really cool... looking forward to Norwalk!
