I have an 84 GN with 30# green stripe injectors, Walbro 340 w/hotwire kit, & Poston's 207/207 cam in an otherwise fresh stock .030 over motor. No other mods. It fires OK but bogs @ WOT & surges at constant city speeds. It's curently throwing 13 & 45 codes & smells like it's running rich - a lot of gas in the exhaust. Also get a whine on acceleration at about 1/2 throttle. All hoses are new & tight. O2 has less than 1K miles on it - same with motor. Plugs look black & wet. Reg is stock & tired but ran 45# at the rail last time checked.

#2 Volt light burns randomly & sometimes dim (especially at idle). Alt & battery are new & have been checked OK. Alt is charging at 15 Vdc. When volt light comes on, all electrics dim & signals either stop or blink slowly. Light goes out & elec's are fine. Been through all wiring & connectors and found 1 cut gray wire behind stereo that's hot w/ignition on. It appears to feed to the ashtray light. It's taped off.

6 cyl Mustangs are leaving my doors in the street.

Any ideas?

first off go back and get your doors...:D

then it sounds like the regulator in the alt is not right...depending on how they test it is to wheather it would show up.

run a wire from the big lug on the alt into the car temperaroly and hook it to a volt eter you can watch while driveing and see what it does.

15 v is kinda high for the early style alt like you have.

might wanna give the mass air flow meter the tap test to start with.while running tap on it and see if the motor changes any.

i had a cut in one of my o-rings between turbo and intake before that made weird noises..while running spay some carb cleaner around both ends of the adapter and listen for any change.

spay all around the egr valve while your at it and then you can unplug the egr vacuum line and take it for a ride too to see if your surging gets any better.

well that should get you started good luck

later....RED

is that 45 psi at idle ? if so i would say try a adj. regulator and back it down to around 32-35 psi at idle.if its not the alt. then get you some new bat. wires. mine did the same things, and mine dont like high fuel psi. runs like crap. caspers has some very nice wires cut just for our cars. i have them and thay fit well and high quality.:)

Thx guys! There's more to this story. When my kid had this car, there was a bi-amped stereo with a hot lead (8 ga) feeding directly from the alt into the trunk unfused that was stolen. An idiot thief tried to pull it and grounded it to the body in the trunk. This 8 ga hot lead fried from trunk to alt & took out the under hood harness & taillight/fp harness that runs down the drivers side to the trunk. I swapped out both harnesses & replaced a few wires at the fuse block. The neg side battery cable ground from the lug to inner fender burned up too. I soldered in a piece of 10 ga & regrounded but didn't replace the batt neg cable. Could definately be a problem now. Does anyone make a ground extender kit for the hot air cars? I see Casper's is ONLY for the 86/7.

Adj reg & fp gauge are next on the list.

Next project - interior. Does anyone have old stock of the seat cloth? It's that hateful sand gray big diamond cloth on the bolsters of the Lear's & doors?

caspers does have the wires you need, give them a call at 847 247 0484. i have the neg. & pos. wires from them and thay fit perfect and high qualty.;)
