If a car was previously issued a salvage title, is it possible to get a rebuilt title issued after? Or, can you get a clean title after? Thank you, Im not too familiar with the whole salvage title thing. :D

As far as I know it'll stay on the title till grave. That's to let the owner know it was a salvage.

I spoke to the owner of an auto body shop a few years ago, who told me that he wrote several vehicles off as a total loss or salvage, which becomes permanent on the title.

However, these vehicles were purchased at an auto auction, transferred to another state where some illegal things were done to the title, and the vehicle appeared back here on a used car lot.

I'm not exactly sure how they did it, but people can get stuck with a vehicle that is actually a salvage wreck, and not know it. The vehicle may appear okay, but it's actually not safe to operate.

Once it has a salvage its on there till grave (what paul mentioned). From what I heard it usually means that it was in a wreck probally major and the car got total and the repairs and worth over the cost of the car, sometimes the body might be majorly damaged or even frame damage.

On cars with salvage titles its usually cheap alot harder to sell if you want to sell it later and expect to pay more on the insurance.

All of the above are correct. "Insurance Salvaged Rebuilt Vehicle" is what the title should read. (near where the leinholder is usually listed) This is what the title states after being certified by a bonded repair facility. Prior to that, salvage cars are issued "Salvage Certificates" which is a small green notarized paper, which you supply the repair shop with.

Cale, we are not talking about the car you now own, are we?

Sometimes what the insurance company considers totalled could be theft related, (say for example the whole interior was stolen<saw one like that>) the replacement cost of a new interior would be extremely high. dictating a total loss.

Hope this helps,

Robert

thanks!

Thanks for all the information guys! No, its not for my car, it was about a car I was inquiring. Salvage rebuilt title, ack. Oh well.

Cale,

I know of an '87 theft recovery on island that was complet except for interior (it even ran) I dont know if this is the car you are looking at. Most salvage cars go thru IAA, so you may be able to check on it thru them...

Hope this helps..

Rob
