Hey guys i just installed a Scanmaster 2.1 in my 87 Turbo regal, installed just like the instructions tell you to, it doesnt get any easier than that, my problem is that it turns on and right back off, according to the instructions this means its not receiving any data from the ald connector, i tapped into the orange wire like they tell you to.

Where do i go from here? all the fuses are good allready checked that, is there any easy way to tell if the ald connector is getting power and info?

I really need this thing to work so i can moniter knock when i get my heads back on and the car up and running, the guy i bought the car from hooked up a casper knock gauge but im positive thats not hooked up correctly so i want to use the scanmaster to moniter knock untill i buy a new casper knock gauge and wire that correctly.

Id rather not just cross my fingers and hope the pistons stay in the block lol.

Any help is greatly apperciated guys!

yea im not sure what there called but its blue and it clamps onto the wire and u install the wire into the other side, its prob called blue scotch lock like u said.
Ive used these a ton of times and never had a problem but maybe this time i am?

Just did a quick google search, it is a blue scotch lock thats what i used, ive heard from many people these things are junk, but ive had great luck with them.

But the way half the wiring is in this car i kinda have a feeling its more than just a connection problem, the old owner was a hack with his wiring i wanna puke just looking under this dash. LOL what can ya do

Yep that's prolly it. Hard for those to work on smaller wire. Couple options. Get a spade connector and plug it in the front of the aldl port or slightly strip back the orange wire and wrap the scanmaster wire around it.

HTH

LOL! 99% of Turbo Buick's have a mess of wires under the dash. Years of people adding aftermarket stuff turns into a big mess.

Yea i figured thats prob the problem, i will give that a try and see what happens, and this thing is a wiring mess and the last owner had some old ass datalogging system for it and well when you splice wires etc it would be nice if he would have shrink wrapped them after he removed all that garbage lol

I try to avoid splicing whenever possible. I used a spade connector & all is well. You need a .125" spade connector if I recall correctly.
