I figure if I'm gonna spend a few hundred bucks on a scan tool, just as well get something that can be used on all my vehicles, right? But everyone has a scanmaster at minimum. What's so great about a scanmaster vs a regular diagnostic tool? Size, convenience, and a little cheaper obviously. What else?

For the most part, most modern chips have the high speed data "code" in them for the scanmaster, or can have it put in. That way the scanmaster can display a few of the more important pieces of data like O2 for example at a much faster rate than the standard ALDL data rate of one frame per 1.5 seconds

So refresh rate is slower. Anything else??

True, refresh rate on vitually all ALDL based scanners is 1.5 seconds per frame (THATS A LOT OF LOST DATA IN BETWEEN FRAMES) Which means you "might" see 8 frames of date for a typical 12 second quarter mile run. :frown:

And of course scanmaster size and convenience are a big plus.

OK second question. Can the same scanmaster be swapped between my buick and my 93 t/a? Both are OBD1 codes, so I would think they could be?
