Scanmaster?

I have read a little about the scanmaster, and i think it is something that definalty need to get my car running just right. The only problem i have is that i just don't understand how everythings works yet, there is so much stuff to thing about when working on this car ( 87 GN ) What is the best way to get the picture one all the knock, and O2 volts, and ECM. What is the best way to learn?

If you're looking for advise, it also helps to know what's been done to the car maintenance and upgrades like a fuel pump, etc...
