I'm started to mod my first GN and it has been throwing a SES light. I've been looking at buying the scanmaster I was just wondering if that can read codes also?

if you can find somone who has a GM Tech-1 OBD1 scan tool you should be able to grab the code out of that, its not a big list, TRs' only have like 25 or so codes. a scanmaster will work too and comes with a sheet of codelists with possible solutions.

A Scanmaster should be at the top of your list when purchasing a turbo regal. It will do a lot more than read trouble codes. If you are going to tune the car at all you are simply flying blind without a scan tool. They are well worth the money.

Yea I haven't actually bought any mods yet so that will probably be the first thing I buy. Now to these stay in the car? And how exactly are they hooked up? Sorry but I'm a newb to these cars.

yes the scanmaster stays in the car, and it's a simple 3 wire hook up
1. Black wire to ground(a good ground)
2.Red wire goes to a fused power source (IGN) terminal
3.White wire gets connected to the ALDL pin E, which is the second pin from the left.
