If I buy a Scanmaster and find a used ALDL cable and I disect that cable to allow me to use the "ALDL plug" section from that cable, would I be able to possibly hardwire the Scanmaster device - directly into the ALDL cable plug?

In this way, allowing me to simply plug in the Scanmaster into the car's ALDL Diagnostic Port inside the car, and hence disconnect the device by simply unplugging the cable going to the ALDL Port - when I am done doing my business with that thing?

What I am asking, is that I have read that the Scanmaster is simply 3 wire hook-up. Can I obtain those 3 connections directly off of the ALDL Diagnostic Connector - inside the car, and if so, can someone please define those 3 connecting points at the ALDL Connector?

I have pretty much given-up on TurboLink at this point, I tried many things and all prooved "Fruitless".

Maybe I should simply disect the TurboLink cable to modify for use with the Scanmaster device?

Lastly, in the spirit of supporting the vendors here - please recommend where I should spend my money for a Scanmaster.

Many Thanks !!!

no. the scanmaster needs power, ground, and data. the ALDL plug only has ground and data.

If you have to have it portable and modular get some sort of plug in both male and female. Or if you really want to be trick put a socket somewhere like the radio opening or ashtray switch and 'plug in' you scanmaster to the plug.

You could always put 3 male connectors on the 3 scanmaster wires and simply plug them in each time you wanted to use the scanmaster, one will have to be long enough to plug into the fuse panel and the other 2 will just go to the ALDL connector, as long as it has a ground like ^ said. I didnt know it had a ground so I ran a new one on my car.

You can always pin a power feed in your ALDL

It is too bad the early adopters didn't select some harmless pin on the ALDL for 12v so all along we could reap the benefits of plug and play.
I suspect it has to do with how expensive those connectors were early on.
Agreeing on some additional connector now (3 pin molex?) wouldn't be a bad idea?
