Many years ago I swapped a 2004r with the TH400 in my GS455. Am now on my 2nd tranny and once again am losing 2nd gear. This one has only lasted a year. A local mechanic blames it on the TV cable setup. I don't have any pressure equipment so I set it using the same procedures as my GN, set at limit at WOT.

Since it stopped grabbing 2nd gear I have loosened the cable to ease the shift but now it slams into 3rd. If I drive it easy it will shift through to 3rd then all is good. If I drive it hard it will not grab 2nd at all just slip.

If I set the cable length equal to the GN adjustment, will that be best for now so I can drive it until I can give it to a shop? Unfortunately I just lost reverse in my GN so it's down and just hit a deer in my SUV so it is in the shop. 3 vehicles and all damaged...... this sucks. I had to de-winterize the GS just to have wheels for the next couple of days and then this tranny messes up.

Suggestions? Anyone know a good tranny shop in the St Louis Area? Got 2 2004rs that need repair.

bob grab yourself a copy of our 200 page 2004r manual and build it at home with confidence.everyhting on the trans is covered including step by step overhaul with photos.the non stock applications require a little special attention in the tv setting department but the theory is covered in the manual and you can phone in for advice along the way if youd like.

Thought about tearing into it but do I need any special tools? I do have the 1st tranny on the shelf to 'play' with. One last consideration is that I am running a 2800 stall D5 lock-up, if that matters.

the converter isnt the issue.there are a few tools youll need and they are cheap.the manual explains all of them and you can decide which ones youll need after reading it.there are a few threads on here as to where you can get the tools at very reasonable cost or you can borrow or buy from others here that have them

Chris, went to your website and didn't see how to get the manual. Wasn't in the tech article section. Please provide a link.

it is 65 shipped.you can use paypal on my site or phone in if your interested in a copy.
