I am brand new to website development and I am looking at now installing a shopping cart to my site.
Can shipping charges be automatically be calculated then totaled after they "purchase". How is the shipping charges "usually" handled? I offer free shiping if UPS ground but if the customer wants it overnight then the customer pays for this. I don't know anything about HTML coding and I use Front Page.

TIA..

I've been using www.coolcart.com for about the past 4years on my site. Been very happy with it. I use Front Page as well. Once you get the hang of the shopping cart it is pretty easy to use. Price is reasonable too.

Plenty of options for how you want to do shipping as well as discounts and tax too.

Saweet! I see that they are having a "life time special" that includes UPS calculations for $20 instead of the normal $30 on the shopping cart..

This looks like only a shopping cart service who do you use for the Merchant Account?

THNX!

I got an Authorize.net account thru www.merchantplus.com which is one of their resellers. Those credit card fees kill you though but that is part of doing business. I also accept Paypal too. The guys at coolcart can set all that up for you once you get the merchant account approved. I have their older version, not familiar with their new cart.

Mark,
Since you have already been through it is there anything that I should be looking at when deciding on a Merchant Acct? What makes some better than others? Since I am at the beginning stages of this I'd like to know what to look out for so I can do proper comparisons between dofferent offers. Obvioulsy I don't want to get burned with something I didn't know about.
I am worried about CC fees since I don't charge much for my parts so I may try to add that charge to a bill or maybe a partial fee..?

I did a little shopping around but was a total novice to it like you. So far I have good luck with the companies I mentioned and that is as far as my experience goes. Maybe some other vendors will chime in?

It's funny when people think maybe your parts are expensive but if they knew how much profit there is after all the cc fees, paypal fees, website hosting fees and good ol Uncle Sam and the state taxes maybe they would understand. Not to mention the increase in the cost of materials.

The extra fees is one reason why I haven't done the online ordering thing yet. I simply let them pay by check or money order and I have had 100% perfect payments for the last 3 years. The only reason why I am thinking about it is b/c maybe I am loosing some sales b/c the customers don't want the hassel of emailing me first so giving them a simple way to order may help sales... I dunnooo..

Thanks for the info!

It will without a doubt increase your sales. People don't usually like to go thru the hassle of getting a money order and then mailing it. It worked for me.
