How much shaft play is too much?

I'm replacing my turbo to go larger. It only has a bout 8,000 miles on it. It does not smoke and is a clean and dry on the inside as can be. When I removed it, I noticed some shaft play, back and forth (not in and out) mostly on the outlet side. This turbo was working 100% effectively when removed. I want to sell it, but don't want to stick anyone with a bad turbo, how can I tell if it's bad or not?

My turbo has less miles than that and it does the same thing. I noticed it when I was putting on my down pipe. I guess it's normal?

On a non ball bearing turbo, you want no in/out. A small amount of side to side play is fine. Brian
