My tranny has 120k on it. I want to put a shift kit in. Is the 30 dollar b&m a good kit. Ill probably only run it a season or 2 and then rebuild it. Thanks.

Listen to Hottogo

I tried a B&M, minor improvement but barely noticable.

I "backed out" the B&M kit and installed the PTS kit--WOW.

Bruce knows his $#!^!

I also tried others shift kits--PTS has what you want.

Shift Kit

What does anyone think of the Art Carr shift kit ??
I bought a used GN with one already in. Felt good
for the first 5 months, but has been much softer lately.
Shifts are no where near as hard or crisp as 5 months
ago.

It has only been on the car 9 months total, and has had
4 full days at the track...

Why do you suppose I am getting softer shifts ??
I was chirping 2nd gear and laying down about
6 feet of rubber when I banged second hard under
boost, up until a few months ago.
Around the same time this stopped, I had put on
MT street slicks, so someone felt it was the slicks that
eliminated the second gear tire spin...
Oh well - I still turned 12.8 on my last run at the
track...

the description that you are giving sounds like 2nd gear band is not getting fed enough pressure or oil volume or the band is glazed or burnt.many things can cause this from a simple adjustment to an o/haul.slicks will take some of the hit off the 1/2 shift because of therelarge contact surface with the road .try to adjust the tv cable tighter and see if this helps .i have seen many people make 1 pass with slicks and kill a otherwise goodworking transmission .we sell aband and servo both of which are o/size that give you the assurance that when you do put slicks on ,failures related to there shortcomings will be eliminated .go to ck performance.com and click on tech articles and youll find a good story on this as well as many other problems.we have distributors in your area .ben pilla in feasterville and ben pilla on frankfort ave if you need any parts.are they still hanging out on red lion rd?let me no .send an email to trannyman0101at aol.com

I installed an Art Carr kit years ago. The kit seemed to replace about every spring in the vb - extremely comprehensive kit. The directions that came with the kit were very easy to follow - except for a page or two that were missing!

Just ordered the full bore kit from PTS, along with several other parts, and from all the hoopla about Bruce and PTS, it seems like I made a good and safe decision. Very enthusiastic about the trans I'm about to put together.

The B&M kit I did was not nearly as involved as the Art Carr kit, but it was not for a 200-4r.

yup...the Art Carr kit has about 4 little springs and two large ones. Took me and my bro about 4 hours to do it but I had never taken a trans valve body out so I was going slowly.

On the advice of Bruce I did NOT put one of the springs in that came with the kit. He said it would make one of the higher shifts too harsh. I am very please with how the car shifts and my 1-2 shift rips the tires loose at part throttle, which is of course what I was looking for ;-)

I guess I have to take my tranny apart and see what is going on.
Or just buy Bruce's setup and call it good.
My shift kit (Art Carr) has gone soft on me and it is only about
1 year old...Lost it's grip..no punch at all anymore..
